Our Background
How We Got Our Start
The Chickasaw story began in 1958 when my parents, Harry and Dawn Erickson, got their first 2 Golden Retrievers:
CH Tansy of High Farms***OD and
CH High Farms Clarion*
As chance would have it, my parents lived within a 20 minute drive of some of the early legends of the retriever sport. Notably, "Torch" Flynn (one of the most influential woman in Golden Retriever Field Events in history), Helen Ginnel, breeder of NFC Wyginns Cork Coat and Dick Wolters, Author of the "Water Dog" series, "Retriever Enthusiasts" and the pioneer of today's gun dog sport.
My earliest memories as a child are caring for and training Retrievers. I also had the opportunity to spend time throwing bumpers for these great trainers and their dogs. As I grew older, I became a Junior Handler. In 1973 I became New Mexico's High Point Junior Handler of the year, but my passion was always in the field events.
As as adult I had the opportunity to continue with the blood lines, breeding program and involvement in the field events that I have such a passion for.
Our goal at Chickasaw Goldens has always been to produce healthy, sound dogs that make great companions with intelligence and working ability that also conform to standard.
